CD Review: MAHIMA
Now, this is a collaboration that truly works. And dazzles. Brozman, known for his Hawaiian slide-guitar work and jam sessions with Okinawa's Takashi Hirayasu, joins forces with Hindustani slide guitarist Bhattacharya, and the results are shimmering.
Both guitarists demonstrate mastery of their instruments, as the solo work is dexterous and impeccable. But the synergy of these two playing together is what really amazes. Not only are- they completing each other's sentences; they verge on crafting a new musical language.
Debashish's brother Subhashis provides a foundation with the tablas, and sister Sutapa provides free-flowing vocals, making this a family affair.
Brozman's Hawaiian accents remind you of his roots, while Bhattacharya's Hindustani strings explore both classical Indian traditions and modern innovations.
Bright, intense, yet fun-loving, this recording is a celebration of possibility. Grade: A
