CD Review: MAHIMA
'Mahima', we are told, roughly translates as 'divine inspiration through artistic creation' and as rough translations go that is a humdinger, straight out of the handbook of Indian concert eulogising. This is a project from two genuinely world-class guitarists with rhythmic and vocal back-up. Far too many world music crossover albums sound like two-a-penny 'committee camels'. This project is never in danger of sounding that way. It has a deftness of touch and a musical integrity that others would do well to mark before launching any other misbegotten world music vessel into the overpopulated CD seas. Stand-out tracks include 'Bana Mali' and the spectacular, sun-kissed 'Konkani Memories'.
